The environment polluted by liquid waste is not only laden with heavy metals; it often contains harmful bacteria and viruses as well. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) offers a solution with its plasma nano bubble technology, designed to restore the quality of water contaminated by industrial waste.
According to data, approximately 80% of industrial wastewater in Indonesia has the potential to pollute the environment, and this technology can reduce water pollution levels by up to 95%, significantly lowering health risks and ecological damage associated with such contaminants.
This technology has various benefits, especially in the environmental field. This technology functions for sterilization, color removal, oxidation of organic compounds, and improvement of water quality.
BRIN Research Center for Environment and Clean Technology (PRLTB) researcher, Anto Tri Sugiarto, said that plasma nano bubble technology is the right solution for dealing with waste problems. Apart from being environmentally friendly, this technology is able to process waste into something of useful value.
Plasma nano bubbles are small, nano-sized bubbles produced using plasma technology. According to Anto, nano bubble plasma innovation plays an important role in protecting the environment. The technology provides practical solutions for water treatment, sustainable agriculture and pollution control.
“This technology involves the use of plasma, a state of matter consisting of ionized gas, to create nano bubbles which have unique properties and various potential applications,” explained Anto at the 34th EnviroTalk webinar, Wednesday (26/6).
Anto said that the technology he developed with his team aims to simplify industrial processes. This technology has been applied in various fields, such as water treatment, sanitation, energy, agriculture and mining.
“We have developed quite a lot of application products from research, including for water treatment, sanitation, health, energy, agriculture, mining and others. “We have also used this technology in various industries to increase process efficiency and effectiveness, reduce the use of chemicals, and improve product quality,” said Anto.
Plasma Nano Bubble Can Improve Lake Water Quality

Meanwhile, this technology can also improve water quality in lakes and rivers. In fact, it can remove odor and color from waste water.
“We installed this technology to remove odors and colors in Kali Item. “So, the water will be cleaner and odorless,” he said.
Apart from that, Anto also explained how this technology is used in Lake Maninjau to restore water quality, as well as in PDAM to increase water treatment efficiency.
“This technology not only offers effective and efficient solutions, but also helps maintain environmental sustainability,” he concluded.
